Transit Outlook — Week of 13 January 2025

(12 January 2025)  The transits are mixed this week but still seem unsettled.  The ongoing Jupiter-Saturn square will be activated once again as Venus approaches its conjunction with Saturn on Saturday, January 18.  While the Jupiter-Saturn square denotes ongoing tension between openness to the future (Jupiter) and a preference for law and order and tradition (Saturn), the introduction of Venus could soften that contradiction.

By itself, Venus-Saturn conjunction suggest austerity and self-denial as the luxurious and comfort-loving nature of Venus is compelled to reconcile with the constraining aspect of Saturn. Venus-Saturn implies a more instrumental approach to spending and perhaps a more goal-oriented approach to social interaction (think Trump’s Art of the Deal).  But the Venus influence could act as a functional bridge between the optimism of Jupiter and the pessimistic caution of Saturn.  Business meetings and appointments could therefore benefit from this alignment as long as the focus is on tangible results.  This alignment is less helpful for purely emotional or pleasurable interaction, however.

The bigger problem may be the Sun-Mars opposition.  As two natural malefics, hard aspects involving the Sun and Mars reflect situations of great energy.  The opposition can be particularly unruly as there is often an excess of fire (pitta) which can lead to conflict, frustration and rash decisions.  With the opposition exact on Wednesday, this is not a good time for scheduling events or appointments that strive for harmonious outcomes.  Based on the evidence from previous such alignments, the Sun-Mars opposition also increases the risk of further turbulence in the stock market this week.   Monday’s Full Moon could act as a trigger for the angry fallout of the Sun-Mars aspect.

The late week will see the full impact of the Venus-Saturn conjunction and could be conducive to more rational economic decisions.  Friday’s Moon-Venus-Saturn alignment suggests difficulty involving females as both the Moon and Venus come under the influence of rule-bound Saturn.  Saturn’s preference for rules and calculation will serve to undermine the emotional focus of the Moon and Venus.  The late week may therefore be a good time to review budgets, but not a good time for lavish dinners with loved ones.  Friday’s double dose of Saturn could also have a negative impact on market sentiment.

The weekend (Jan 18-19) could be quite constructive as Mercury aligns with the Venus-Saturn conjunction.  This should be a good time for making plans or working on all manner of creative projects.  Social interaction should also be rewarding as this alignment implies an enjoyable and fair exchange of ideas and sentiments.  No doubt everyone will be sharing their thoughts and feelings before the inauguration of Donald Trump on Monday, January 20.
