Transit Outlook: Week of 7 October 2024; Jupiter turns retrograde

(6 October 2024)  The highlight this week would seem to be the retrograde station of Jupiter at 27 degrees of sidereal Taurus.  Retrograde stations occur when planets stop and reverse their apparent normal forward motion as seen from our vantage point here on Earth.  Retrograde stations can represent a shift in energy so that trends are more susceptible to reversing.  Because retrograde motion carries a negative connotation, the traditional benefic significations of Jupiter may become a bit weaker or more vulnerable to compromise or distortion.  These significations include optimism, expansion, wisdom, pious religiosity, fidelity, and reproduction/children.  The exact time of Jupiter’s station is 3.05 a.m. EDT on Wednesday, October 9.

Collective sentiment may also be more likely to “peak” in some symbolic way this week since Jupiter will be in a near-exact 60 degree alignment with Chiron, the planetoid located between Saturn and Uranus.  Jupiter-Chiron alignments tend to be quite favorable and Jupiter’s reversal of direction could produce a gradual diminution of this optimism as the two planets begin to separate.  Economic data could become more vulnerable to contraction in the subsequent days and weeks.  While US growth looks fairly good after Friday’s strong jobs number, the retrograde station of Jupiter and its separation from Chiron could mean that the data are more likely to indicate a slowdown in the weeks ahead.

As is always the case with Jupiter stations, Jupiter will cast its 120 degree aspect to both the Sun and Mercury this week.  Both look constructive for starting new projects of all types. At the same time, Mars casts its full-strength forward square aspect to the Sun and Mercury.  This could increase energy and initiative and could encourage risk-taking activities.  While the Mars-Mercury square is now separating,  the Mars-Sun square is approaching exactitude, which occurs next Monday, October 14.  This may be a time of intense and combative assertions of power, at both the governmental and military level. Decision-makers (the Sun) may feel emboldened by the aspect combination of an aggressive Mars and confident Jupiter.  The strong Mars influence here suggests more military action is likely in the Middle East this week.

For financial markets. the Jupiter-Chiron alignment may well keep sentiment mostly positive this week.  While the approaching Mars-Sun square is a modestly negative influence, much of its potential late week sting is likely to be offset due to its larger alignment with Jupiter and Chiron.

The best day of the week could well be Saturday, October 12.  The Moon forms a Grand Trine alignment with Jupiter and the Sun, with Chiron lending a helping hand.  This should be auspicious for starting any new projects or businesses, and would also facilitate favorable social interactions.
